On last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “Idle Hands,” the docs and owners of Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital look for a way back into the operating room and ultimately back into medicine, without the boardroom paperwork.

The newly re-opened Seattle Grace–I mean Grey + Sloan Memorial–is full of state of the art equipment the docs can’t wait to get their hands on. But after all the expenses that went into reopening the ER, purchasing the 13-sec body scanner called Lodox, and outfitting each ER station with innovative equipment, the patients are not really coming. So as far as idle hands go, all of the part owners who’ve been out of practice as of late furiously search for something surgical to get their hands on.

Yang lands herself a Lotus valve replacement which from the way she describes it is pretty amazing, only to find out the attending who let her place one was really just pitching her for more funding, not asking her to come on board. Little did he know though, the owner-side of Yang does still have a place in the OR and she uses her board power to decrease his funding, forcing him to bring her on board since he’s losing some of his key staff on the project. Score one for the ownership.

Avery on the other hand, who displayed his leadership skills last week when the ORs were overbooked and again when he renamed the hospital, was anxious to get out of the policy talk with anyone and found himself, luckily, being the first one to use Lodox (talk about product placement). Miraculously, it really does only take 13 seconds for a fully body scan! The doctors are so impressed, they’re counting out loud over the injured bodies. In a real hospital though, if I was the patient, and had any sort of consciousness, I might kick one of them out of rage for using me to test out their toy–regardless of if it saves my life a little faster. Count in your head people, you’re surgeons!

Speaking of being surgeons, Alex and Richard have a little idle fun of their own with one of Alex’s cancer patients who happens to have a crush on Alex’s intern crush, Jo. Messing with the GYN Jason that she’s been dating, they pull a couple of silly childish pranks that drive Jason a little crazy while Weber suggests the greatest prank yet–having him hand deliver a cup of his urine to Bailey for random drug testing. Um, yuck! Clearly, he got punked, and everyone in the hospital knew it except for him. Unfortunately for Alex, the childish games he played didn’t bring him closer to Jo, it just reminded him who she’s really with. Time for Plan B Alex, and you better get on it.

Over in McFantasyland, Derek and Meredith are going a little crazy about McBaby, if only because Meredith is paranoid something will be terribly wrong with it because she’s got the Alzheimer’s gene she feared all her life. Trying to calm his neurotic wife, he takes her to an OB to take a look at the baby. It’s a boy! A little Grey, the spawn of one hot brain surgeon and an equally hot general surgeon. This family is clearly going to be one that leaves a mark on history. As long as all continues to go according to plan.

The happiest news of the night, Bailey got her Human Genome Mapping Project approved. After Owen rudely disregarded her pitch before he quit, she dusted herself off and tried again, and again, and again with all of the new owners, including Yang, Grey, Cali and Arizona, and Avery. It looks like her baby talk about the project to Meredith’s belly put her back on their radar, and soon enough she received the good news.

Congratulations Grey + Sloan Memorial, you’re getting your medical wings back!
